Obesity: update

A few days ago I posted on the causes behind the causes for obesity. In the light of that post, the news that government is working with junk food companies to set “health policy” is exceedingly worrying.

    There’s something grotesquesly, cartoonishly, awful about this: it made me feel we were back in the 1980s of Jonathan Coe’s What a Carve Up! (see the character of Dorothy Winshaw therein). I wanted to ask in relation to your previous post, Elselijn, do you think the CAP in Europe (the famous ‘butter mountain’) produces any similar role to the one you ascribe to the USDA, i.e. promoting over-consumption of surplus food commodities?
